Gifted Test Overview

CogAT K-12: This cognitive aptitude test is a reasoning test that targets developed cognitive development, general and specific reasoning abilities and problem solving. This test is used most commonly in the Seattle/Eastside districts. The three parts to the CogAT test are: verbal, quantitative and non-verbal.

Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) K-8: This academic achievement test measures through listening, vocabulary, word analysis, reading comprehension, math, social studies science and sources of information. The ITBS Test measures student performance against national student standards and against other students taking the test.

Screening Assessment for Gifted Elementary and Middle School Students (SAGES-2) K-8: This test measures both aptitude and achievement in reasoning, math/science and language arts/social studies. The test is administered through both problem solving and multiple choice.

Stanford Test K-12: This achievement test assesses children from kindergarten through high school. This test targets reading comprehension, mathematical problem solving and science. The test is administered using multiple choice, short answer and extended (long) response. Besides requiring a written answer, the extended response may also require graphs to illustrate or show work.

Structure of Intellect Learning Abilities Test (SOI) 2-12: This test consists of 26 different subtests spread across eight different sections: figural, symbolic, semantic, comprehension, memory, evaluation, problem solving and creativity. The SOI test provides a detailed profile of each student’s strengths and weaknesses.
